Billy Quarantillo is preparing for a significant change in his UFC career, but he does not expect the move to alter the style that made “Billy Q” a familiar presence in the Octagon. Twenty-five professional fights into his mixed martial arts career, Quarantillo will compete at lightweight for the first time in the UFC when he faces Diego Ferreira at UFC Fight Night: Gamrot vs Salkilld. The co-main event gives Quarantillo a new division and a familiar purpose: deliver an active, high-intensity performance while pursuing a win.
The move is rooted in practicality rather than a change in ambition. Quarantillo said recent training camps made the featherweight cut brutal, particularly during fight week, when his attention was directed toward food and the scale. Competing at 155 pounds gives him what he described as a chance to focus more on the fight itself than the process of reaching the featherweight limit. It is also a return to a weight class he last fought at while boxing professionally in 2018. For Quarantillo, the lightweight debut is therefore both a physical adjustment and an opportunity to enter fight week with a different emphasis.

A new division after a long UFC climb
Quarantillo arrives at this moment with six UFC victories and Saturday’s contest set to be his 12th UFC appearance. His route to that stage was not immediate. A stint on The Ultimate Fighter in 2015 did not result in a UFC contract, so he returned to the regional circuit and continued adding wins. His eventual opening came on Dana White’s Contender Series, where a third-round victory over Kamuela Kirk at the Meta APEX earned him the chance to compete on the larger stage.
That sequence gives added context to why Quarantillo described the period between The Ultimate Fighter and the Contender Series as difficult. He said belief in what he could do, along with having no backup plan, kept him pursuing a UFC place through that four-year gap. Once he reached the promotion, he said he took on the opponents placed in front of him across 11 hard-fought Octagon bouts. The upcoming contest is not presented as a departure from that approach. Instead, it is the next chapter for a veteran making a targeted change intended to remove a recurring source of fight-week stress. Quarantillo’s comments make clear that comfort at the new weight is meant to support preparation, not reduce the challenge of competition.
Family, Gracie PAC and the Ferreira test
Quarantillo said his reasons for fighting have changed as his life has changed. As a husband and father, he identified his wife and children as his top priority and said his work is directed toward their future. He is also building Gracie PAC in Tampa, Florida, a gym he initially started as something to do after his fighting career. Quarantillo now sees it as a place where he can pass on the experience gained through his own path to the UFC. He named Will Rentz, David Macias, Ali Abouzalam and Blake Smith as teammates he believes are ready for the UFC.
- Weight-class change: Quarantillo will compete at lightweight after saying recent featherweight cuts had become brutal during fight week.
- Career milestone: The Ferreira bout is scheduled to be Quarantillo’s 12th UFC fight, following six UFC victories.

| Career point | Confirmed detail |
|---|---|
| First UFC lightweight bout | Quarantillo faces Diego Ferreira at UFC Fight Night: Gamrot vs Salkilld. |
| Previous 155-pound appearance | He last fought at lightweight while boxing professionally in 2018. |
Against Ferreira, Quarantillo expects a high-level, high-intensity matchup between experienced competitors. He said both fighters can operate on the feet and on the ground, and he expects different positions during the bout. His stated aim remains direct: do what is required to earn a finish and a victory. The August 8 event at Meta APEX in Las Vegas gives Quarantillo the first UFC test of his lightweight chapter, with the same urgency he says has defined his career.
