Quillan Salkilld wants top 10 fight

Quillan Salkilld is not talking like a man who wants to take his time after the biggest win of his UFC run.

A few days after stopping Beneil Dariush in Perth, the Australian lightweight made it clear that he is already looking past the idea of a slow climb. He wants another big name. He wants a brighter stage. And if the UFC feels like throwing him into a main event next, he sounds more than happy to take it.

“I’m not looking to take my time, I’m looking to jump in headfirst,” Salkilld said. Then he put it even more clearly: “Speedrunning this s–t, that’s what I’m looking to do.”

That sounds exactly like the kind of quote a fighter gives after a win like his over Dariush. It was not some small result tucked away on the prelims. It was the kind of performance that changes the whole room around your name. Dariush dropped him early, controlled him for a stretch, and still ended up getting overwhelmed once Salkilld found his rhythm again. The comeback, the finish, the moment — all of it gave Salkilld a much bigger voice than he had a week ago.

Salkilld wants the next jump now

The interesting part is that he is not treating the win like the end of a chapter. He is treating it like a launch. Some fighters get a breakout result and spend the next few days talking about staying patient, staying grounded and waiting for the right opportunity. Salkilld is going the other way. He is saying he wants the opportunity now, and he does not seem too worried about how steep the next step might look from the outside.

He also said, “Hopefully they give me another big opportunity, another big name, brighter moment, hopefully a main event next, that would be wicked.” That line fits where his head is right now. He is not just trying to protect momentum. He is trying to cash it in while it is hot.

And to be fair, the timing is good for him. Lightweight is full of names, but it is also the kind of division where a fresh result can move somebody quickly if the win is strong enough. Stopping Dariush the way he did is the sort of result people remember. It does not guarantee the next big fight, but it gives him a much stronger argument than he had before Perth.

Salkilld also gave a good look at how he sees himself in the middle of a fight. “That’s just part of my personality,” he said. “When s–t hits the fan, I don’t really stress too much. I stay calm in every situation.” That calm showed up against Dariush. He got hurt early, the fight got messy, and he still looked like the man thinking more clearly once the exchange opened up again.

That is probably why he sounds so confident now. He is not speaking like someone who stole a result and wants to be careful with the next booking. He sounds like someone who learned something useful about himself in a big UFC moment and liked the answer he got.
