Angela Hill beats Xiong Jingnan at UFC Macau

Xiong Jingnan came to UFC Macau with a championship past, a home-region spotlight and the expectation that her arrival could open a major new chapter in the strawweight division. Angela Hill gave her the least welcoming debut possible: three fast, demanding rounds and not a single one on the judges’ scorecards.

Hill defeated Xiong by unanimous decision at Galaxy Arena, with all three judges scoring the fight 30-27. The American veteran did not treat the former ONE champion like a dangerous guest who needed time to reveal herself. She entered the octagon with a long winning run and major experience outside the UFC, but Hill made the difference between promotions feel real before the first round was finished.

Hill takes the debut away

Xiong had spoken before the fight about entering a new stage of her career. She was not a raw newcomer arriving with a protected record. She had been a champion, had fought at the top of ONE Championship and arrived in the UFC at 38 with the confidence of someone used to carrying big expectations.

Hill never let the occasion belong to her. She began with pressure, attacked in the clinch and forced Xiong onto the fence early. Xiong meets the UFC pace

A Macau debut against Hill gave her a clear route into the division: beat a ranked veteran and move straight into meaningful UFC matchups.

Hill shut that route for now. She did not need a knockout or a dramatic late rally. Her performance was built on work rate and experience. She outlanded Xiong in every round and finished the contest with 122 significant strikes, her highest total in a UFC fight since 2022.

That is a difficult first lesson for any established arrival. Outside success earns a fighter a serious debut, but it does not buy an adjustment period once the UFC fight begins. Hill has spent years facing strawweights who operate at this tempo. Xiong found herself trying to catch up to it while the scorecards moved away from her.

Hill adds another chapter

Hill has never needed a perfect record to remain relevant in this division. Her UFC career has been built through difficult bookings, constant activity and a willingness to fight whoever is placed in front of her. She has met champions, contenders and prospects, often with very little space between assignments.

At 41, she was supposed to be the experienced name Xiong could use to announce herself. Instead, Hill used the fight to remind the division that experience only becomes a weakness when the fighter can no longer impose it. In Macau, she was first to the exchanges, comfortable in the clinch and steady enough to take every round from a woman carrying serious expectations into her debut.

The victory also gives Hill another measurable place in UFC history. Her 30 appearances remain the most for any female fighter in the company, and her 13 wins at strawweight set a new divisional mark. Those numbers were not built from easy nights. The Xiong fight fits the pattern: another opponent with a strong reason to win, another full 15 minutes where Hill refused to give ground.

Xiong’s UFC run is not defined by one loss. Her background and skill make her an interesting addition to the roster, and the division still has several matchups that can show where she belongs.
